Submission to council
Now that the working drawings are complete they are ready to be submitted to council. Council require either confirmation that the project complies with the Residential Design Codes, or an application for a relaxation under the Codes. Each council will usually have its own checklist applicable to the local area.
Once the working drawings are approved and a building license issued, it is the approved working drawings that are provided to any subcontractors by the builder. If any confusion or difficulties in interpretation occur between subcontractors, the builder can refer to the working drawings for clarification, along with other project documentation. The contract, written specification and working drawings form the basis of the project documentation.

Task
Check your plans for the Rogers' proposed workshop against the regulations and guidelines that apply in your area.
You will need to obtain this information locally. A checklist, or the full regulations, can usually be found online at local council or shire websites or collected from their offices.
Patience is a virtue
Barbara and Jake are really pleased with the work Pat has done for them so far. They've signed off on the working drawings and now eagerly await the issue of a building licence so that their workshop construction can begin.
